You are Here, 2019-2025

The phrase “you are here” usually promises certainty—orientation, presence, proof. In this series of videos, that promise keeps breaking down. You are here becomes a question, a plea, and sometimes a misdirection. It points to a place on a map or a screen, but also to a person, a memory, a former self, or an audience who may or may not be listening. The work asks what it means to stand somewhere that carries history, even when that history feels distant, altered, or incomplete.

Throughout these videos, being “here” shifts in meaning. Places remain while the people who defined them vanish or age out of memory, and monuments stand in place of stories that were never meant to be held in place.  Time folds back on itself—1985 exists alongside the present day, and dreams intrude on waking life. The words suggest that presence is not guaranteed by proximity or documentation; it has to be felt, remembered, or willed into being.
